ECO WALK 2023

This year, Mountain Spirit organized the Eco Walk program on 29 April 2023 at Chapa Kharka, Godawari. There were around 66 participants including 8 children. The theme of eco walk was “Walk for health and environment” which emphasize benefit of hiking in health and environment conservation for better future.

Before starting hike, welcome speech was given by Ms. Ang Diku Sherpa, Treasurer and brief background about MS and eco walk by Mr. Ang Phinjo Sherpa, Advisors and the program briefing by Mr. Nima Tshering Lama, General Secretary. After that, all the participants headed towards Chapa Kharka and hike for almost two and half hours until reached the destination (Chapa Kharka). After having lunch at Chapa Karka, all participation were given some time to enjoy and relax at the lap of nature.

The program included various entertainment games. Firstly, the group were divided into 5 groups. The games includes trash collection, built the wall, score a goal, digging, balloon and marble race competition, lucky draw. Winner team received the gifts. Due to high possibility of huge rainfall, the program was declared end with closing speech from Ms. Tuka Cheki Sherpa, Chair.

To conclude, every participants enjoy the jungle hiking route, views from top, games and many more.

Eco Walk 2019
Now a days most people are busy with their work, they get fewer opportunities to spend time in a natural environment. Getting outside and experiencing nature in itself at least for a day is a wonderful experience. Mountain Spirit has been organizing a day-long Eco-walk on the occasion of World Environment day to nearby hills surrounding Kathmandu valley.

This year the program was organized on 8th June 2019 at Jamacho, Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. There were around 78 participants including 12 children taking part in this program. The primary purpose of the Eco-walk is to expose people to the natural environment and increase their love for the environment so that we can become better stewards of the environment which also belongs to the future generation.

Before heading with the main activities, a short introduction round was held followed by a welcome speech from Ms. Chhing Lamu Sherpa, MS Chairperson. Meanwhile, Dr. Ghana Shyam Gurung, Country
Representative, WWF put forward his views on environmental degradation and the importance of wildlife. Similarly, former ambassador to Australia Ms. Lucky Sherpa, remarks her views on Eco Walk and her commitments for Eco-tourism development in different parts of the mountain region of Nepal. Similarly, Dr. Shailendra Thakali also spokes a few words regarding the environment and Eco Walk.

The program included various entertaining activities and games throughout the day. The participants were divided into teams and they competed for a series of competitive games like rubbish collection, spoon and marble race challenge, score a goal, and Tug of war. Each activity was supervised and scored by a volunteer judge. As the teams began to get very competitive, the final item was presented which was collecting and making the biggest garbage pile. Within 15 minutes, the littered picnic spot became spotlessly clean. The collected rubbish was moved to a nearby collection site.

At the end, it is amazing to observe many people who came as strangers but left with many more friends.
