Case Studies on the traditional seeds preservation techniques and food practices of Indigenous Peoples during covid-19

Mountain Spirit, with the support of the International Indigenous Women’s Forum (IIWF-FIMI), has conducted the project “Case Studies on the traditional seeds preservation techniques and food practices of Indigenous Peoples during covid-19”. This project is lead by Ms. Tuka Cheki Sherpa.

1. Case Studies

Under this project mountain spirit conducted case studies on Indigenous seed preservation practices and food systems focusing on the health and wellbeing of community members. A total of 12 case studies were collected from six indigenous communities representing two from each of the Mountain region (Sherpa and Lama), Hilly region (Magar and Rai), and inner Terai region (Danuwar and Tharu). 36 elders, women, and food systems and 12 best case studies were selected and included in this publication. MS published the booklet “Case studies on the traditional seeds preservation techniques and food practices of Indigenous Peoples during covid-19”.

2. Case studies writers presented their case studies during this program

A one-day “National Level Case Studies Sharing Program” organized by Mountain Spirit on 28th August 2021. Total 5 panelists were presented in the program which includes: Dr. Krishna Battachan, Ms. Yasso Kanti Battachan, Dr. Pasang Dolma Sherpa, Dr. Lakpa Sherpa, and Mr. Lhakpa Tenji Lama (Sherpa) for their inputs and feedback on twelve case studies from Mountain, Hill, and Terai regions.

3. Booklet publication

The publication contains twelve interesting case studies collected from six indigenous people’s groups of the mountain, mid-hill, and Terai regions of Nepal.
